Undergraduate Enrollment at PBIs
In 2016, there were 104 Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs) enrolling over 403,982 undergraduate students—more than half (53.8 percent) were public two-year colleges. Black or African American students represented nearly half of all students enrolled at PBIs. This pattern continued across all sectors, except for private nonprofit two-year PBIs, where Black or African American students represented nearly six in 10 students.
